Bailey Setzler

Growing up in San Diego, I was lucky enough to enjoy some of the most beautiful landscapes that our world has to offer from sandy beaches to snowy mountaintops. I have always loved being outdoors and as I got older, I learned to appreciate the underlying ecological processes that make our natural environment so full of life. Spurred by my interest in protecting our world’s natural resources, I studied Environmental Management and Protection at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and began working in environmental consulting shortly after graduating.

Early in my consulting career, I realized that my passion is for biological resources, and I have since been fortunate to have been involved in a suite of biological resource–focused studies and field deployments. I have conducted many survey types, including vegetation community mapping, rare plant surveys, nesting bird surveys, fisheries surveys, butterfly surveys, and vernal pool monitoring. I am well versed in using the results of these biological studies to prepare various plans and CEQA-compliant documentation.

To supplement my existing knowledge of biological resources, I am currently in pursuit of a master’s degree in biology at San Diego State University, where I am researching the ability of chaparral ecosystems to sequester carbon dioxide. This work will be important for identifying opportunities to offset anthropogenic carbon emissions in natural lands in order to achieve California’s goal of net carbon neutrality by 2045, as required by AB 1279.

When I am not working or in class, I’m playing beach volleyball, playing softball, heading to the mountains to snowboard, or finding other ways to spend time outside.
