The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) is a sewage collection, treatment, and resource recovery utility providing service to more than 1.6 million people in a 386-square-mile service area in the Sacramento region. Its service area includes the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County and the cities of Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, Folsom, Sacramento, and West Sacramento.
Ascent is supporting SacSewer with preparing its Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (CARP). As part of this effort, Ascent is evaluating major climate-related impacts affecting SacSewer’s facilities, including extreme temperatures, sea level rise, floods, droughts, wildfires, and power interruptions. The CARP will incorporate implementable adaptation and resiliency strategies to reduce risk and vulnerabilities to SacSewer’s facilities intensified by climate change. The plan will also strengthen SacSewer’s ability to provide continuous, reliable treatment of billions of gallons of sewage every year for homes and businesses across the Sacramento area well into the future.
