Ascent’s biological resources team assists the California Tahoe Conservancy by conducting surveys for various species in support of the Conservancy’s projects in Griff Creek, Sunset Stables, and Lyons Ranch. The objective is to identify and implement measures to re-establish natural ecological processes and improve wildlife habitat while also reducing wildfire risk. Protocol-level surveys are conducted for multiple species, including special-status bats, Sierra marten, California spotted owl, and northern goshawk, to identify areas of suitable nesting habitat, determine occupancy and reproductive status, and locate nest trees or activity centers. Our team uses automated recording units (ARU), baited trail cameras, desktop assessment, and field surveys to collect data.
