I am perhaps unusual as an environmental professional because I actually obtained a degree in environmental science. (I have several friends in the profession who are English majors.) It is all thanks to my high school teacher, Cindy Suchanek, who taught some of the first environmental science classes offered in my school district and inspired me to pursue a career in the field. More than 30 years later, I still love what I do every day. It is important and gratifying to continue to give back to the environmental field through involvement and leadership in the California Association of Environmental Professionals and other nonprofits that promote protection and enhancement of the natural and human environment. I hope to be a positive influence and eventually leave the environmental profession better than it was when I started.
When I am not on the computer, at meetings, or in public meetings or hearings about my projects, I counterbalance my professional passion with my over 20-year athletic addiction to triathlons (sprint, Olympic, half-ironman, and ironman distances) and endurance road biking. Nothing is better than a good sweat after a long day in the office!
