Jim Merk

Sometimes I feel like a gardener pruning an overgrown plant or a detective trying to solve a mystery and make things right. Even after more than 30 years as a technical editor, I still find it endlessly satisfying to bring order and clarity and consistency to whatever text is put before me. I fell into this line of work while wrapping up my master’s degree in English. I saw a notice for an open editor position at an environmental consulting firm and applied. The job has proven to be a good way to combine my love of language and my interest in the environment. I’ve worked on an impressive range of projects over the years, but more than the projects themselves, it’s the experience of working on a team committed to doing good work that has made the strongest impression on me.

Away from work, I tend actual plants while trying to create a yard that appeals to local bugs and birds. I also love to read and watch movies and take the occasional trip.
